How to Back Up Your Files Before a Repair
Five minutes now, peace of mind for good.
We look after your files, but the safest files are the ones you have a copy of. If the computer still starts, a backup is easy.
Step by step
- Plug in an external drive or a large memory stick.
- Open File Explorer.
- Copy your Documents, Pictures, Desktop and Downloads folders to the drive.
- Check a few files on the drive open properly.
- Safely remove the drive and keep it at home, not in the laptop bag.
- Make a note of the passwords you will need afterwards, such as your email.
What the result means
- The copy finished: you are protected, whatever happens next.
- The copy stops with errors: the drive may be failing. Stop, and tell us. See data recovery.
- The computer will not start at all: do not worry. We can usually copy the files for you.
Not sure? Call 020 7237 6805. We are happy to talk it through, and the assessment is free.
