Computer Will Not Turn On

A computer that will not start feels like a disaster, and it very rarely is. In most cases one part has failed and everything else, including your files, is fine.
Safe checks to try first
- Check the socket with a lamp, and try another power lead
- On a laptop, unplug the charger, hold the power button for 30 seconds, then try again
- Unplug everything except power and try once more
- Look and listen: lights, fans, beeps?
Stop if you smell burning, hear clicking from the drive, or the computer has been wet. Switch it off and call 020 7237 6805.
