Computer Overheating or Shutting Down
It is not giving up. It is protecting itself.
When a computer switches itself off, it is usually because it has become too hot and is saving itself from harm. Cleaning and a little care are often all it needs.
Safe checks to try first
- Make sure the vents are clear and the computer is on a hard surface
- Listen: is the fan running at all?
- Note whether it happens during games or video
- Do not keep restarting it straight away
Stop if you smell burning, hear clicking from the drive, or the computer has been wet. Switch it off and call 020 7237 6805.
